It is worthwhile to take a day trip to the nice island of Tabarca. From Santa Pola you can take a boat to the island. The island's length is only 1800 meters and it has a maximum width of 400 meters. There is a small village here which still has its defensive walls intact. The capital of the province is Alicante, a beach resort with an international airport, located in the heart of the Costa Blanca.
