Residence Il Casale lies near Cortona, on a wooded hillside above the valley. From here you have a wonderful view of the famous Etruscan city. Residence Il Casale was originally a farm dating from the 16th century. The original main building as well as several outbuildings are situated along two sides of a spacious park. The garden, which is enclosed by ancient walls, offers plenty of opportunity to unwind. The owner has fully restored the old buildings retaining their original Tuscan style. Whenever possible, he has incorporated the original materials into the renovation. In these houses you can admire the atmosphere of a bygone era. All apartments, ten in total, are warm and attractive. A washing machine is available for common use. The garden is beautiful with its lush vegetation, which also ensures lots of privacy for guests. From the garden as well as the house you have a magnificent view of the hills around Cortona. Guests can use the swimming pool in the garden which is surrounded by a spacious meadow and shade trees. Directly next to the estate lies Villa Baldelli, where you can eat. The center of Cortona is only 3 km away, on a hill. Montepulciano, Arezzo, Siena and Florence are also nearby. Lake Trasimeno with a variety of water sports and region of Umbria, with its mysticism and culture, are just a stone's throw away.

In the garden, at the side of the pool, you will find a stone staircase which leads to the front of Casa Tulipano. From here you enter into a spacious living room, where you will find an authentic, beautiful, large Tuscan fireplace. The old original doors have been preserved, as well as the terracotta floors and wood-beamed ceilings. To the right you have access to a hall where you will find a bedroom (furnished with a double bed) and a bathroom (with shower). From the kitchen you have access to a second bedroom furnished with two single beds. You can sit outside your accommodation and relax. By the pool you can enjoy the sun or the shade.

The American writer Frances Mayes bought an old house in Cortona in the nineties and totally refurbished it. Here he wrote the novel “Under the Tuscan Sun” (1996). It became a bestseller and then a film in 2003. Since then Cortona has become quite popular with tourists. The city acquired additional publicity when it was used as a backdrop for some scenes in the Roberto Benigni film “La vita è bella”. On the slopes of the hills rises Cortona, another jewel of Tuscany. Its buildings are made of sandstone and have wooden balconies which highlight the medieval streets and squares. Cortona is a town of Etruscan origin located in the mountains of the province of Arezzo. The city was established on one of the earliest inhabited hills of the province and has lovely streets like the cities of Assisi and Volterra, which also share a similar topography. Cortona is situated not far from the border between Tuscany and Umbria. In the west, the town spreads into the Valdichiana Valley, with the extinct volcano of Monte Amiata (1738 m) in the background. Lake Trasimeno, in the region of Umbria, is visible from the higher elevations of the city. Cortona has a beautiful footpath full of cafes and restaurants. In summer there are a number of activities possible here. 12 kilometers from the residence there is Lake Trasimeno, which is like a small sea. Here you will find beaches, ferries, islands, rocks and fishermen. Lake Trasimeno is one of the enchanted centers of Italy, located south of the Apennines. The Big Island, compared to Passignano, is the only inhabited island of the lake, with several dozen residents who live among the nice rocks. The island is known for its women who wear the expensive, almost century-old braids. Cortona is located 30 km south of the city of Arezzo, 75 km east of Siena and 115 km south of Florence. All facilities such as shops, restaurants and public transportation are located within 3 km.
