Surrounded by so much natural beauty: the Ardennes, Eifel and High Fen. This house is situated at an altitude of 500 meters and makes an ideal base for hiking and cycling. Hiking and cycling maps are in the home for you. The property is located just a short distance from the Frankental, where you’ll find numerous signposted cycling and hiking routes. For long distance cyclists there is the "Velo Tour High Venn-Eifel", a network of 850 km that promises delightful cycling on rural roads with little traffic.
If you prefer to work hard there is the regional Mountain Bike Network with 18 trails and a total length of 420 km – sure to be a challenge! You can choose from various levels of difficulty: easy, moderate or strenuous. The network has many features including short courses, strenuous sporting routes, a large loop in the Eastern Cantons (approximately 190 km), as well as a downhill ride from the highest point in the Fens to the valley of the Warche (from 690 to 300 meters in altitude) .
Do you like horse riding? 5 km from the house you have the possibility to take riding lessons.
In winter, when snow covers the ground, you can go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing around Holzheim. There are opportunities for alpine skiing with slopes near Hellenthal / Weiser Stein (610-690 m) and Schwarzer Mann (699 m). Cross-country skiing can also be done in Manderfeld at an altitude of 560 meters on trails of 4, 7 and 10 km, mostly through open fields. You can also ski in Losheimergraben at an altitude of 670 meters will trails extending for 4, 8 and 15 km, but mostly through the woods. You can experience great tobogganing fun in Manderfeld or Schwarzer Mann. And finally, it is not something you do every day: snowshoeing through snowy fields accompanied by a guide (upon request).
Because of the high altitude of this region, rivers such as the Warche, Amblève and Our originate here. Canoes can be rented at the beautiful lakes of Robertville and Butgenbach which are ideal places to enjoy swimming and a variety of other water sports: great for kids!
But there's more to see and do in the (wide) environment. Take a look at the bustling towns of Malmedy and St. Vith, visit the waterfalls of Coo or the caves of Remouchamps. Near the German border you'll find the zoo of Hellenthal, Vulkamar swimming paradise and picturesque towns like Monschau and Kronenburg, with its ancient castle ruins. Slightly further away lie the cities of Aachen and Cologne, Phantasialand theme park, the lakes and peaks of the volcanic Eifel, the ancient Roman city of Trier on the Moselle, and Luxembourg.
