If you think of Hungary, then you think of Budapest. It is a city of great caliber where culture, museums and history are very well represented. The Danube divides the city into two parts, Buda and Pest. The bridges like the ‘Elisabeth Bridge’ or the ‘Chain Bridge’ give this city that little bit of extra allure. A walk along the banks of the Danube with the entire family is special and comfortable, and it is also romantic during sunset. If you like to shop, you can enjoy this activity in the city center, with the Blue street and the numerous lateral streets. On the ‘Buda Castle’ you can find a few famous monuments such as the Matthias Church, Fisherman's bastion and the Tancsics Mihaly Street. A single day would not be enough to see everything there is to see in this city.
Discover Lake Balaton
Lake Balaton is Central Europe's largest lake with a surface of 592km2. It is 79 km long and 15 km wide. This ' Hungarian Sea ' is a paradise for those who love swimming and water sports vacations. Additionally, it is a part of the national park of Lake Balaton. For artists and painters it very often is a source of inspiration, during each one of the four seasons. Jozsef Egry is one of these painters, and you can see part of his paintings in the museum in Badacsony. In this same region on the north shore, you will also see various vineyards in the countryside, as in Csopak, Badacsony and Zanka or the fertile valleys of Scisco. These wines get more and more famous every year. Hungary is a great year round holiday destination.
Traveling to the beautiful country of Hungary requires no extra paperwork for the Dutch or Europeans. Every traveler, adult and child, must be in possession of their own travel documents in the form of a passport or European identity card. A visa is not required for the Europeans. Other travel documents such as insurance papers and medical insurance papers are also recommended, as in case of any problems, you'll have your information in hand. Having the phone number for blocking a credit card is another recommendation. This can prevent many problems. This way you will have a carefree vacation.
Driving in Hungary is like driving anywhere in Europe. The European legislation applies in Hungary also. Make sure you have a valid insurance and you are in possession of a valid driving license. With regards to the toll roads, there are now five of them, at the border you can buy a sticker, you will get a receipt which you should keep as proof of payment and your license plate number will be recorded in the computer. Upon inspection on the road, your registration number will be checked by computer. The fines are quite high for breaking the traffic rules such as not wearing seat belts or crossing a red traffic light. No alcohol is tolerated if you are driving and mobile conversations while driving will be fined also.
The currency in Hungary is the forint – ft. In many places you can pay with euros or by bank card. A great advantage is that you can pay directly with your credit card or with money from the ATM. It is recommended that before you leave you check the internet for the exact exchange rate.

The Hungarian cuisine has its own specific, though you will recognize certain gastronomy elements from other countries also. The Hungarians love meat, fish, cheese, soup, fruit and potato dishes and stews.

Turo: kneaded cheese in which salt is added
Porkolt: stew with meat and vegetables and potatoes
Halaszle: fish soup made with various fish species

Palinka: a strong alcoholic drink made of alcohol and fruits with an average alcohol content of 40 percent or more
Toltott kaposzta: cabbage rolls filled with rice, meat and herbs with or without tomato sauce
Toltott paprika: Stuffed peppers prepared based on the same principle

If you want to take your pet with you on your holiday, you are traveling by car and your dog is in possession of a valid passport for dogs and a vaccination certificate, you can travel with your pet everywhere in Europe. Please keep in mind that your pet has to have had all its vaccinations and must always be kept on a leash. Check with your holiday accommodation if your pet's access is permitted. This can prevent future disappointments.
