In many places on earth, destroying healthy forests causes major problems. Trees provide a habitat for animals, purify water, provide protection against flooding and erosion and provide the nutrients needed for agriculture. Many farmers in areas nearby see their yields fall and move to overcrowded cities to look for work, or end up in refugee camps. Often they even have no other choice than slavery for survival.
Eden Reforstation Projects, reduces extreme poverty and restores forests. She does this by hiring local villagers to grow and plant millions of native trees every year. This approach proved so successful, that since its inception in Ethiopia in 2004 Eden has been very active in various countries around the World where deforestation and poverty go hand in hand. Thousands of local workers have already been put to work with the planting of trees. They earn a wage with which they can earn a living in a decent way.
Eden has planted already more than 200 million trees and that is just the beginning! The goal is to plant at least 100 million trees every year and help thousands of villagers escape from extreme poverty.
