Enjoy a wonderful holiday in south-west France in one of Bungalow.Net's cozy
chalets in Aquitaine. Whether relaxing with a glass of wine by the fireplace or hiking through the foothills of the Pyrenees, you are sure to have an unforgettable time in the "land of water". There is so much to see and do here you will scarcely have the time to fit it all in. Swimming or surfing on the Atlantic coast, horseback riding or canoeing in the Dordogne department, exploring some of the more than 1,000 medieval castles or a number of the "most beautiful villages in France", visiting museums or adventure parks - the possibilities are practically endless! When you take into consideration its mild climate, travel destinations just don't get any better than this!
Traveling around in Aquitaine
The third largest region in France, Aquitaine is an area comprised of gently rolling hills, dense forests, flowered meadows, a long oceanic coast, a number of freshwater lakes, thousands of vineyards and the Pyrenees mountains. Its diversity means you can explore the region in a variety of ways. For example, you can go horseback riding through the Perigord Pourple or explore the Vezere valley with its prehistoric relics on the back of a pony. Those fond of water sports can canoe or kayak down rivers like the Dordogne and Lot. Hike the Pyrenees, or for a different perspective, view them from the heights of Le Petit train d'Artouste, the highest train in Europe. Enjoy wonderful sea views para-sailing along the Atlantic coast or from a ferry boat on the Bay of Arcachon. Whatever means of locomotion you prefer, it's all within easy reach of one of our chalets in Aquitaine!
The four seasons of Aquitaine
Aquitaine, the southwestern-most region of France, makes a great year round holiday destination. In summer its long (250km) largely unspoilt Atlantic coast is perfect for swimming and basking in the sun as well as a variety of water sports. Farther south, on the border with Spain, the "basco-landaise" coast is a bit rockier and very popular with surfers from all across Europe. By contrast, in winter the Pyrenees mountains provide the opportunity for a variety of winter sports. Spring and autumn are great times to explore the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park, the largest pine forest in Europe. In addition to a wonderful flora and fauna, you'll find a network of cycling tracks plus a number of freshwater lakes which are ideal for fishing, swimming and sailing. Autumn also means bullfights and grape harvests, but just like its wines, you can enjoy this region from one of our chalets in Aquitaine any time of the year!
