Gironde, one of the five departments of Aquitaine, is the largest department in metropolitan France. It's capital, Bordeaux, is situated near the Atlantic coast and is home to numerous cultural attractions. It's Gallo Roman origins can be seen in a number of its ancient streets as well as the Pallo Gallien, a 2nd century amphitheatre. The magnificent 18th century Palais de la Bourse is now home to the Bordeaux National Opera. Of course you will find a variety of museums here including the excellent Musée d'Aquitaine. Best of all, Bordeaux is easily accessible from one of our comfortable holiday homes in Aquitaine!
