Burdaard (between Leeuwarden and Dokkum, near Bartlehiem) and tourism are inextricably linked. The village is buzzing with water tourism; many ships and boats sail through Burdaard via the Dokkumer Ee, towards the Wadden Sea ('standing mastroute'). This ensures pleasant crowds along and on the water. This phenomenon also arises in winter when the Ee is accessible to skaters after a considerable frost period.
